Durable power of attorney

A durable power of attorney (DPOA) for healthcare is a legal document that grants an individual, known as the healthcare proxy or agent, the authority to make medical decisions on behalf of another person, known as the principal or patient, in the event they become incapacitated or unable to communicate their wishes. The durable aspect of the power of attorney means that it remains in effect even if the principal becomes incapacitated.
